Non-Surgical Gum Therapy

Non-Surgical Gum Therapy

Following a thorough screening and examination for periodontal disease, we may choose more aggressive treatments that are aimed at removing or reducing the amount of plaque and bacterial toxins that have accumulated below the gum line (tooth cleaning and polishing are typically performed above the gum line of the patient’s teeth). In order to do this, curettage, root-planing, and/or the delivery of medicine to the gums that are affected at the particular location are required. Curettage is the term used to describe the process of removing the soft tissue that surrounds the tooth. This tissue, which is located farther below the gum line that is visible, gets irritated over time as a result of germs and has to be removed in order for the healing process to progress smoothly. Root-planing is a method that includes removing and smoothing out tiny pieces of the root surface in order to provide the soft tissue lining that is healing with a surface that is clean and free of any contamination.

In most cases, these two treatments are performed concurrently. These procedures may need the use of local anesthetic, and they are performed expertly by our highly qualified hygienists in accordance with Park Haven Dental’s prescription.
The development of gum disease does not occur overnight, and the course of therapy often requires an extension over time. This is due to the fact that the success of following actions must be reviewed. Typically, your health will be reevaluated throughout the course of time, and a choice on your further actions will be made jointly. It is possible that a referral to a specialist (periodontist) will be needed in the event that surgery is required. Surgery often results in a full recovery of the jaw and bone, a reduction in tooth movement, and a considerable improvement in the prognosis.

In order to ensure that you get the treatment that is most appropriate for your requirements, the hygiene team at Park Haven Dental will collaborate with you. Additionally, they will assist you in honing your abilities in home care so that you may continue to enjoy the oral health that you want.
